Unemployment insurance fraud continues to be a subject that investigators are looking into here in California.
It's been six years and the amount of funds stolen was reported to be into the billions.
The peak of this fraud scandal started during the COVID pandemic.
At a time when people were losing their jobs and filings were climbing at a fast pace, the Employment Development Department, or EDD, temporarily suspended some eligibility reviews in order to speed up payments.
