5 Ways NICB Can Help You Fight Fraud
Here are five ways partnering with NICB to fight fraud and other crime benefits you:
1. Get direct assistance on the ground
Hurricanes, wildfires and other disasters across the country stretch thin even the largest insurance claims resources, making it harder to quickly and thoroughly respond to insurance fraud in the wake of catastrophes. When your teams are focusing on helping your customer’s recover, you may not be able to react to fraud issues. But by partnering with NICB, member companies get support to investigate fraud from agents already on the ground.
Staffed by experienced fraud and theft investigators, NICB is prepared to quickly dispatch agents to disaster sites nationwide, and we connect with member companies, special investigation units, and law enforcement using an electronic claim referral process.
Even beyond disasters, with NICB, you have more resources and support to efficiently and effectively handle insurance fraud concerns. Learn more about how we support your investigative efforts.
2. Get help fighting big fraud and organized crime
As an industry leader and the country’s only nonprofit organization with a multi-carrier approach, NICB specializes in collaborating with members and law enforcement nationwide for multi-claim, multi-carrier investigations against organized fraud and theft rings.
Here’s how we supported our members in 2023:
- 309,593 vehicles recovered, with 97% of recoveries supporting member companies
- 1,990 organized criminal networks identified
- 159,392 questionable claims processed
3. Access professional, valuable, and comprehensive data
When looking for fraud trends impacting your company, as an NICB member, you get access to NICB’s data-driven research. We leverage our collective investigative experience, analytical talent, and subject matter expertise to help you identify risks and anticipate emerging threats. With access to unique data sets and our members’ claims data, NICB analyzes aggregate data across member companies to identify organized networks, and then shares the intelligence with partners for joint investigations.
Members receive effective fraud data through products and services such as:
- Alerts - NICB’s alerts (ForeWarn℠ and MedAware®) help you detect and prevent potential fraud early, while also improving investigations’ speed and effectiveness. They can include information on known or suspected scams, as well as individuals and/or entities who may be involved.
- Reports - Members receive NICB’s published reports on numerous topics affecting the insurance industry, especially industry statistics, industry trends & patterns, and geographic area analyses. These reports increase your general industry knowledge, support resource deployment, document trends, and address your needs.
4. Join an expansive network fighting insurance crime
When you become an NICB member, you don’t just connect with NICB’s professional investigators, but also a wide range of other companies and government agencies, all working together to find solutions for insurance fraud.
Access Regional Dialogue Meetings - Throughout the country, NICB hosts meetings where member claims and SIU professionals can share information with their counterparts at other companies, as well as with law enforcement members.
Benefit from Anti-Fraud Advocacy - On the policy front, NICB’s Strategy, Policy, and Government affairs team engages legislative and regulatory bodies to influence the national response to insurance concerns. In 2023 alone, we advocated for 57 bills that were passed and helped defeat 21 other bills, building a better environment for fighting insurance fraud at the nation, state and local level. Learn more about legislative advocacy work.
5. Gain valuable resources for your employees’ professional learning and growth
NICB serves members and partners as the nation’s training center for excellence in insurance crime prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution. We offer a state-of-the-art, innovative training curriculum for members and law enforcement officers, investigators, and intelligence analysts at every stage of their careers.
Members can attend NICB’s live, interactive, one-hour virtual FraudSmart℠ presentations, led by industry experts and professionals. For a more personalized program, you can select from a range of different training topics, as well as customize courses based on your needs and knowledge levels.
NICB also offers members who enroll on-demand courses through the National Insurance Crime Training Academy (NICTA), featuring over 60 educational assets. With a wide variety of courses related to fraud schemes, detection, and investigation, NICTA helps your claims organization maintain a consistent, high level of fraud awareness.
In 2023, we helped members through 153,949 NICTA fraud education course enrollments, plus 35,905 non-NICTA training program enrollments.
