Two charged in Roane County theft investigation
ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — Two people have been charged in connection with a theft investigation in Roane County, troopers said.
Kelly Lantz, 45, of Elkview and Brian Thompson, 42, of Cross Lanes are accused of breaking into the Roane County Telecommunication Center in Amma on Friday where a vehicle was stolen, according to a news release from West Virginia State Police.
Investigators were able to quickly locate the vehicle, which was stuck in the mud on an ATV trail, but the occupants allegedly began to flee the area. Troopers said Lantz was eventually taken into custody, but the second person – Thompson – was not found.
The following day, troopers responded to a West Virginia Division of Highways garage in Amma for an alarm call where they spotted Thompson walking nearby, the news release said. He was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to run.
Troopers said about $100,000 worth of property that was stolen from the telecommunication center was returned to the company.
Lantz is charged with receiving or transferring stolen property, providing false information to law enforcement, fleeing on foot and conspiracy to commit a felony against the state, according to jail records.
Thompson is being held on charges of breaking and entering, receiving or transferring stolen property, fleeing, driving revoked, conspiracy to commit a felony, grand larceny, trespassing and breaking and entering, jail records said.
