Insurance Claims Village on Aiken's Southside provides resources after Helene, help file storm claims
The Insurance Claims Village on Aiken’s Southside provided some needed assistance to Greg Lawson and other area residents Oct. 7, and help was available again Oct. 8.
Tropical Storm Helene “took my backyard and made tree soup out of it, and it also put a couple of trees on my house,” said Lawson, who lives in the Hunters Glen neighborhood.
Lawson was feeling frustrated after contacting State Farm Insurance following Helene, but he didn’t have trouble finding someone to talk to face-to-face underneath the company’s red pop-up canopy tent in the parking lot of the Aldi grocery store on Whiskey Road.
“I tried to get this kind of support over the telephone, but I couldn’t do it,” said Lawson, who discussed his problems with State Farm’s Zanayah Thomas and was making progress in getting them resolved.
Aiken resident Tiffany Carter, another State Farm customer, was smiling after stopping by the tent.
“They’re going to send an adjuster to my home to inspect the damage and everything,” Carter said. “Shingles came off [the roof], and I had water leaks on the inside in places.
“They really helped me a lot,” she added. “I also was able to get coverage for the food I lost [after the power went out].”
