Car windows were engraved with unique identifiers

On Saturday, July 22, 2023, the NICB attended a catalytic converter VIN engraving & windows (glass) etching event at Newport News Police Headquarters in Newport News, VA. 

Citizens came from various jurisdiction of the Virginia Peninsula; Southside Hampton Roads and one made the trip from Northern Virginia. The staff efficiently provided etching services to 75 vehicles during this one-day event. 

This event was attended by members of Newport News Police Department, the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), and the Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA).  Auto theft and catalytic converter theft prevention materials were provided by the Virginia State Police HEAT program and the NICB.
