Harris County Sheriff warns of rising catalytic converter thefts

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (CW39) – The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is warning drivers that catalytic converter thefts are back on the rise they’re and urging residents to take steps to protect their vehicles with several tips to take action.

Officials said thieves can remove catalytic converters in just minutes, often targeting vehicles parked in dark or unsecured areas.

The sheriff’s office recommends several prevention tips, including etching your vehicle’s VIN number onto the catalytic converter, using high-heat paint to make the part easier to identify, and parking in well-lit or secure areas whenever possible. Also, be aware of your surroundings at all times.
